just finished reading this book written by Mitch Albom last night... a short book but its worth every minute spent reading it... the values that the book teaches is very useful for all of us...
this book is about an old man named Eddie... he works as a maintenance guy in a carnival called Ruby Pier... one day he died when he was struck by a falling ride that had broken off its support while trying to save a little girl... he goes to heaven n encounters 5 people who have made an impact in his life, affecting his life as he lived on...
the first person he met was called the Blue Man, who works at a freak show as a performer... Eddie was indirectly responsible for the death of Blue Man when he was a small boy which he didnt know about... he taught Eddie that there are
no such things as random acts in this world and that everything is connected to one another...
the second person Eddie met was his Captain during the Vietnam War... they were captured n in order to escape they burnt down their enemy camp. Eddie thought he saw a shadow darting between the flames n was insistent in taking a look. All of a sudden Eddie was shot in the leg which caused him to become a limp... only after the conversation with his captain did he realise that in order to save his life, his captain shot him in the leg... Eddie grew angry with his captain but he decided to forgive cause he learnt that his captain gave up his own life to ensure that his platoon mates would survive... he taught Eddie that
sacrifice was part of life... its supposed to be n its not something to regret but something to aspire to...
the third person that Eddie met was Ruby, the lady with which the carnival where he worked was named after... even though she existed before Eddie knew her, she still made an impact on his life... she taught him the meaning of
reconciliation... she managed to reconciled Eddie and his father... she turned the ill feelings Eddie felt for his father all these years, into feelings where a son would naturally feel for a father...
the fourth person was Eddie's wife, Marguerite, who passed away due to cancer... he loved his wife deeply but she passed away at a young age of 47 years old... he felt bitter about it... he never loved another person after his wife had passed away... Marguerite taught him that lost love is still love... even though a life might have ended, but the love felt for that person/love ones will never fade or can never be erase... it will always be there... He learnt that even though life ends, love doesnt...
love is there to stay...
the fifth n final person Eddie met in Heaven, was a little girl named Tala... she revealed to him that she was the shadow that he had seen darting between the flames during the war.. she taught him that
everyone exist for a reason... you might not know it, but u were made for a reason... n Eddie's reason was to work at the carnival n make the children happy and safe...
