whew** ... in a blink of an eye, 9weeks of my first stage of army life in pulau tekong is finally over... it might sound like a very long time, but in fact, it passes so fast... wanted to update my life in bmtc every week, but just couldnt find the time to do it so i will just recap on the highlights of bmt then =pPp
-enlistment day-
who can forget enlistment day... on reaching tekong, we were divided from our family... they went for a tour of the island while we new recruits had to do admin stuff... after that we did the swearing in in the auditorium, then had dinner with our family at the cookhouse... western f00d = yUcKs... after dinner, the parents had to leave, leaving us to endure 2 weeks of confinement in camp...
-IPPT (Cat --> Diagnostics --> Actual)
well... im really happy with my IPPT result cause i achieved what i set out to achieve... i failed my categorization, so i targeted a pass for the IPPT Diagnostics and i achieved it... the next was to target a silver for the actual IPPT and i got it as well... ^^
-Field Camp-
field camp lasted for 7days, meaning totally no contact with the outside world for 7 whole days... was feeling home sick for the first day, but the feel gradually lessened as the days passed... field camp is fun in the sense that we learnt new stuff in an outside environment... the only down part was that it rained on several days, making the ground wet n muddy... it was difficult to slp at night :( ...
-Live Range-
first time getting to shoot live rounds... at first i was a little afraid of the noise cause it was really loud even when sitted 100m away from the firing range... but when it was my turn to shoot, i realised that the sound wasnt loud at all... weird huh... well... my score was 26hits out of 32hits... 2 short of the top shooter in my plattoon, n 5 short of the marksman in my company...
-SIT Test-
its a 3 days outfield camp... rained heavily through out the 3 days... so it really dampened the spirits n lowered morale... the first day was rather relaxing as we only had lessons n at night we had Raven's Night... it was truly fun on the first day... in the next 2 days, we carried out the missions that was allocated to us... the assessor on the first day was screwed up, as he kept on ranting at us for nothing... i very much prefer the assessor on our 2nd day... he was much more interesting n fun to work with... overall i think i did ok for the SIT test...
-Games Day-
a day dedicated to companies competing with one another for honor n glory =X ... after a series of competitions, RAVEN finally won it and became GAMES DAY CHAMPION for the first time... never before have Raven Coy won it... ^^
-Grenade Throw-
whoo... one of the main highlights in BMT as this is our only chance where we got to throw a live grenade... we started out by practicing with a SPG (Singapore Practice Grenade) where its explosion is relatively small... next we move on to the real thing ^^, the SFG (Singapore Fragmentation Grenade)... from far, we could already feel the shockwave n loudness of the explosion... so naturally most of us were feeling nervous when it came to our turn... but surprisingly, the shockwave n loudness was not as huge as we expected when we threw... one of the main interesting points was when a blind was thrown... the shockwave n loudness of the detonation of the claymore mine was way bigger than a grenade... i got to experience it first hand =pPp
-24Km Route March-
well... this is the mother of all route marches in BMT... we have already done 4km, 6km, 8km, 12km and 16km... it took us from 3pm all the way till 12am... it was tiring yet fun... there was really a sense of achievement when we completed it...
-P.O.P-
this is the day when we out pass out from BMT with a parade... we all had trained very hard for this parade so we were thankful that it didnt rain tho it did threaten to at the end of it... mum, dad and darling was there to watch me pass out... prior to the parade, i didnt feel different or especially happy about it, just felt normal... but at the end of it, a sense of accomplisment flowed thru me... i also started to feel sad that i would be leaving my mates as we move on to other units... some of us might get a chance to go to the same unit, but not all of us... so good luck to one and all in the next phase of army life...
